Banding (C-C-C-C-COMBONATION ATTACK!)
Banding was introduced into one Final Fantasy game… Final Fantasy IV: The After Years. But it was introduced far before that. It was introduced in Chrono Trigger as 'Dual Tech' and 'Triple Tech'. But either way means the same: An attack created by two or more combatants. I have developed these Banding rules for ZODIAC Final Fantasy RPG.
First, the two or more PCs must decide which tech of each player's choice the Banding tech will derived from. Next, the Players must create a tech with a tech level equal to (Average Tech Level between all Techs involved + Banding Modifier). The banding Modifier depends on how many participants are involved with the Banding Tech, to a maximum of Five. See below:
Two to Three Players: +1 Tech Level
Four to Five Players: +2 Tech Levels
Then, they need to figure out how much the banding Tech will cost to each participant. This cost is equal to (sum of all Techs MP + 5) / # of Partipants. Let's give an example with a three participant Banding Tech, using some alraedy created characters.
Ktjn, Cid, and Blank want to create a banding tech out of the following Techs. Ktjn's 'Tower Card' (Level 3 Strong Attack Magic w/ Lightning Elemental: Cost 14 MP) + Cid's Wind Shot (Level 3 Medium Attack Magic w/ Wind Elemental + Lesser Sleep: Cost 19 MP) + Blank's Suprathermal Busterblast (Level 3 Strong Power Attack w/ Fire Elemental + Lesser Poison + Area Effect: Cost 29 MP). They decide that the Banding Tech should be an Strong Attack Magic with Banding, Area Effect, and Multiple Element (Fire, Wind, and Lightning). Blank's player wants to call it 'Tempermental Natural Disaster'. Ktjn's player and Cid's player agrees to the name. Now, They add the average of their Techs (3) to the Banding Modifier (+1) to get a Level 4 Tech. Then they figure the MP cost of the tech that is deducted from each of them to use this mega-tech. ((14 + 19 + 29 + 5)/3) = 22 Mp cost from each of them.
Banding Techs may include 3 Secondaries and an Elemental (excluding Element Choice and Multi-Element)
The banding Tech activates on the slowest person's turn, but each participant pays their 8 SP (unless slowed or hasted, in which they pay 2 more or 2 less), or, if the Banding Tech has Charge Power, they Pay 8+(SP Cost/# of Participants +1)
If creating a Banding tech that uses magic attack rolls, add 5 points to the average of the characters's MACC. For each character beyond the two-character tech, add another 5 MACC.
and That's all you need to create a Banding techs.
